Skillspire’s commitment to helping refugees and veterans

This post expresses the views and opinions of the author(s) and not necessarily that of The Bellevue Zone management or staff.

We, at Skillspire, want to reiterate our mission and commitment to helping under-represented communities: refugees, women, and veterans, to support the resettlement of Afghan refugees, the actions we are taking to help, and encourage others to join us.

The images coming out of Afghanistan are heart-wrenching. Our deepest condolences go out to those who have lost civilian and military friends, family members and loved ones. We are also deeply grateful for all the veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice over the last 20 years. To the millions of Afghan people who have had no choice but to leave their homes and seek refuge, we want you to know that it is our collective responsibility help you resettle in this country.

Our Commitment

At Skillspire, we have partnered with leading local and national organizations to help individuals and families establish new lives and gain meaningful employment.

The Need to Act

Enabling refugees to earn incomes is far better than giving them aid, as it creates self-reliance and choice. To enable these, there needs, not just social programs and services, but effective targeted programs to help push them to achieve more. The time to act is now.

We know from our experience that companies have an important role to play in this current crisis. First, many organizations need emergency funding, as well as access to volunteers. Second, refugees and their families need employment to build new lives. Finally, refugees need to be welcomed in our workforces for their skills and experiences. Together with governments, non-profit organizations, and the corporate sector, we can all make a difference.

Our Actions

Training. We are offering a limited number of full scholarships for eligible Afghan refugees and pro bono services to support skilled refugees to find work in the tech field. We will be proactively expanding our work with organizations to source refugees arriving from Afghanistan and other countries.

Collaboration. We are actively looking to work with governments, non-profits, and other companies to scale our impact. Please reach out to us at
