The South Bellevue Community Center is a nice, clean place for kids to play and study.  A tour of the center was provided by Bill Gatlin, Community Services Program Coordinator, who recently showed me around inside.

The Community Center has a partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellevue and is a 32,000 square foot, three story facility in Eastgate Park.

During the South Bellevue Community Center tour I was shown the Art Wall where artists in the community can submit their artwork for the wall quarterly every year.  Many talented artists submitted beautiful nature scenes lining a hallway.

A huge community room can be rented that can be divided into two sections for adult classes, fitness classes, special events like weddings or other gatherings where a full-service kitchen is available for those events.

The Boys and Girls Club has two classrooms where children were studying during my visit.  There is also a pre-school on site contracted with by Natural Start Preschool of Bellevue who provide a lot of outdoor activities for children.  Gatlin explained they try to limit their time with the kids indoors.

A 33-foot climbing wall looked fairly intimidating where the Center partners with Northwest Team Building who operates the climbing wall.  Outside is the Zip Tour and Challenge Course also operated by Northwest Team Building.  For the schedule click here.  These activities can be scheduled for parties and corporate team building events.

The Center provides locker rooms and showers and two full-sized gymnasiums that are used for Boys and Girls Clubs youth sports programs, practices and games and "a very robust drop-in sports calendar where we have badminton, pickle ball, volley ball, basket ball, and also three times a week we have an indoor play program where we set up kids ages 1 - 5  with toys and mats and children's activities," Gatlin said.

The adult fitness facilities are state-of-the-art with only a few adults using the machines at the time, around 5:00 pm.  The fitness room appeared to be a good sized room that contained cardio and strength machines with several flat-screen TVs along the walls.

Lastly I was shown a large fitness studio with mirrors along one wall and a ballet bar along the opposite wall.  The room is used for yoga, Pilates, Karate, Tai-Kwon-Do, and youth dance classes.

The schedule for the first trimester of 2022 is getting ready to be published.  Lots of activities will occur over the school winter break so the week before Christmas and the week after there will be classes and activities available for children; climbing camps, lots of drop-in sports activities, children's indoor play, so that they "bump up the schedule for those two weeks because we know a lot of people are home and not working or out of school and give them the opportunity to come recreate with us," Gatlin said.

TBZ did a story a few weeks ago after touring the North Bellevue Community Center.

The video below is of TBZ's editor driving around the parking lot before the tour and down the road from the outside of the South Bellevue Community Center to the main road.
