Jonathan Zheng took first place at the 2021 annual piano competition on the State University of New York (SUNY) campus at Fredonia.

The competitors were drawn from 72 students internationally with 13 pianists being invited to participate.  The competition was designed for 15-18 year old's pursuing their passion of playing piano.

The young competitors performed the Final Round on a Steinway D Concert Grand piano named "Claudette" in honor of late SUNY Distinguished Professor and pianist Claudette Sorel who played for the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony, among other many notable orchestras.

The first prize, shared between two pianists, Jonathan Zheng, 15, of Bellevue and Hyeonuk Park, 16, or Lexington, Massachusettes, was $2,500 split between the two of them.

The competition took place on November 7, 2021.
