Bellevue College has taken steps to keep up with new technologies in their curriculum being offered to students wanting to enter into the Information Systems and Technology sector. The growing tech sector on the Eastside continues to grow and demand employees educated in IST including artificial intelligence, robotics and Amazon Web Services related jobs.

Although BC continues to offer a range of courses, the greater Bellevue/Seattle area has become known for it’s technology related companies moving into the area. Positioning itself to keep up with the industry's demand to fill jobs relating to information technology, BC announced it’s new Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems and Technology with a Concentration in AI that will begin in the Fall of 2022.

According to a recent Bellevue College press release, Alysa Kelsey, program manager for the college’s Information Technology Programs, said, “Advisory committee members, including those that work at Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook, have recommended adding an AI concentration, and are excited about this new addition to the curriculum.”

The growth of these companies will demand the steady stream of college graduates who have this technical education. This will secure the future of many graduates who have a pipeline into the largest tech companies in the country.

The program chair of the BAS IST degree, Dena Laney, said that due to the pandemic, many people have decided to change careers and high-tech continues to grow in our area. The new degree offers a “high value degree opportunity” and can be considered for careers in AI, according to the press release.
